2008 Candidate Photos and Statements
Dino Rossi
I am extremely proud and honored to
be able to list the Rental Housing Association of Puget Sound among
those who support my candidacy for governor. Making Washington a
better climate for small businesses, including residential property
managers, has always been a priority to me, and will continue to be a
priority when I am governor. With your support, we will be
successful in November and beyond.
Joyce McDonald
Joyce
McDonald has served five successful terms in the Washington State House
of Representatives and was twice named Legislator of the Year by the
Washington State Council of Police and Sheriffs for providing increased
school safety, tighter sex offender laws, and tougher drunk driving and
meth lab penalties. Joyce wants to continue to protect our
families while promoting a healthy economy, improving transportation and
reducing property taxes closer to home on the Pierce County Council.
Sam Reed
In my first two terms as your Secretary of
State, I championed the most extensive election reforms since statehood,
fought for a wide open primary, developed the nation’s first
Digital Archives, and saved the 155-year old Washington State Library.
We have more work to do to restore our faith in democracy, renew trust
in government, and preserve our history. I ask for your continued
support with these efforts, and your vote in the General Election.
Margarita Prentice
Senator Margarita Prentice has a record of
strong leadership for local families. Chair of the Ways
& Means committee, Margarita has secured funding for key projects,
including economic development, assisted small business and fought for
manufacturing jobs. Margarita understands the challenges facing
working families and protects jobs and opportunity. As a nurse,
Margarita has led the fight to reduce prescription costs and expand
access to care. Margarita’s kids are products of our public
schools. In Olympia, she has consistently funded K-12 and higher
education.
Dan Roach
As a former owner of rental property, I know
firsthand some of the battles you fight with government. In my eight
years as a state representative, I have fought for property rights and
less government interference. As a property owner, I believe you have
the right to make decisions that are going to make your property safe,
appealing and an asset to the community. Thank you for your continued
support.
Dave Upthegrove

Dawn Morrell
Having a home is a fundamental need of all humans. I am proud
to have two housing hero awards on my desk in Olympia. Rental Housing
Owners are also housing heroes. Because of you, people in our state have
access to affordable housing for their families. Too often we overlook
the true service that is provided by rental housing owners. Thank
you
Dick Muri
One of the earliest sayings I learned from my father was that
there is no such thing as a "free lunch". If we are to strive to
provide affordable housing for our citizens, we need to ensure
government regulations, taxes, fees, etc. are no more than necessary to
provide protections for both the customer and the supplier. My
record of fiscal restraint and accountable government these past five
years will hopefully earn your vote.
Glenn Anderson
Being a successful small business
person in our state is no small challenge. Being a successful,
responsible landlord is a greater challenge still. Misguided and
unrealistic government regulatory requirements on landlords undermine
both the incentives to be a good landlord and create real shortages of
affordable housing that is very much needed. Political social
engineering and micromanagement of the landlord/tenant contractual
relationship hurts more people than it helps.
Justice Charles
Johnson
Justice Charles Johnson seek's re-election to the State
Supreme Court, Position 4, where he's served for 18 years. An excellent
judge, he's proven his intelligence, fairness, impartiality, common
sense, and commitment to improving the efficiency and accessibility of
the courts. Born, raised and educated in Washington, hard work and
meeting difficult challenges underscore his entire life. He's
exceptonally well qualified to continue protecting our rights. He and
his wife live in Gig Harbor.
Marlyn Jensen
Marlyn is a fiscal conservation and offers a lifetime of
experience and community involvement with schools, business
associations, church, and local politics. Marlyn has spent her adult
life engaged with issues directly affecting Pierce and Kitsap Counties
via the 26th district. Marlyn is an advocate for lower taxes, business
friendly laws and back to basics education. She fights for efficient,
lower cost transportation solutions, controlling growth management in a
responsible way, and the protection of our citizens from sex offenders
by being a strong advocate for Jessica’s Law. Marlyn has been
endorsed also by the National Federation of Independent Business. Marlyn
has been in the rental housing business for 33 years and cares about our
issues.
Reuven Carlyle
Reuven holds a B.A. in Communications from the
University of Massachusetts at Amherst and an M.P.A. from the John F.
Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Reuven is an
entrepreneur in the wireless and software industries. Over the last
several years Reuven has served in a number of senior executive, board
of director and consulting roles for a wide range of U.S. and
international venture backed mobile, software and clean technology
firms.
Steve Litzow
We are proud to support Steve in his efforts of working
together with rental property owners to advance the general welfare of
the rental housing industry. We know Steve will continue to work with
property owners on the Eastside to provide the best quality housing for
its citizens.
Troy Kelley
A small business owner and fourteen-year Army Reserve
officer, Troy Kelley has the service, values and leadership experience
to deliver results for our community. In Olympia, Troy worked for
a stronger economy, better schools and healthier families. Troy
has worked to improve Washington’s business climate and create
more jobs that provide access to quality, affordable healthcare and
prescription drugs. An independent leader, Troy Kelley provides a
lifetime of service and results.
Mike Carrell
Rental homes and apartments are two ways that people of
limited capital, or who choose to rent, can obtain housing.
Unfortunately, too many legislators in Olympia don’t realize that
you, as rental housing owners, are risk takers who have invested time
and money into that housing. I realize that government must be
careful, or we risk losing the very rental housing that so many depend
upon.
Mike Lonergan
Mike Lonergan has worked closely
with the Rental Housing Association during his seven years on the Tacoma
City Council. His leadership put the brakes on a City staff
proposal for Mandatory Inspection of all rental housing. As Pierce
County Executive, Lonergan will make sure property owners and managers
are included in efforts to assure quality housing without unnecessary
cost and regulation. Mike has built and managed many rental units,
so he understands our business. www.electmike2008.org; here you can submit a brief
form offering support such as a sign location. You may also send
an e-mail directly to info@electmike2008.org instead
of going through the website. Calls to 253-759-3252 requesting a
sign will also receive a prompt response.
Bruce Dammeier
Integrity and accountability are critical in my
personal life and public service. These attributes have guided me in the
military, as a community leader, and small business owner. I will take
these principles to Olympia to work on our community’s top
priorities: reducing congestion, strengthening education, and holding
firm on spending. You deserve a representative who listens and gets
things done. I want to be that representative!
Jan Angel
Hello. I’m Jan Angel, Candidate for
26th Legislative District, Position 1. I am a Kitsap County
Commissioner, in my second term, eighth year. I oversee a county
of approximately 240,000 citizens and an annual budget of
$330,000,000.00. Prior I have spent 14 years in banking, 9 years owning
my own business in Pierce and Kitsap Counties and 7 years in real
estate. I am married with 4 children, 10 grandchildren. We too have
rental properties.
