Legal defense fund

Your membership allows you to increase your
knowledge about laws and regulations.
The Rental Housing Association of Puget Sound continually
updates it's members to changes within Landlord/Tenant law to promote
safe, clean, and law abiding housing throughout the industry. RHA
continually monitors changes in industry laws and regulations at both
the State and City level; bringing it's members the most up-to-date
information available to help them better run their rental housing
units
For nearly 80 years RHA has in some form been protecting the rental
housing industry. Today, we are in an era of high litigation, and RHA
would like to continue the tradition of initiating, defending,
intervening in or forestalling litigation where the legal issues are of
substantial significance to the rental housing industry. The RHA Legal
Defense Fund helps fortify the rental housing industry; it is there to
protect our membership when a significant legal issue is threatening the
rental housing industry.
To date, RHA Legal Defense Fund has been key in the
following cases: McCready/Margola (Seattle’s Mandatory
Inspection/Rental Housing Fee program), ordinance passed in 1989;
lawsuit settled in 1996, Mukilteo’s Rental Housing Per Unit Fee
Program, ordinance passed in 1997, overturned by the State Supreme Court
in 1999, Kenewick Ambulance Tax (amicus brief), ordinance passed in
2000, overturned by the State Supreme Court in 2004, Pasco Mandatory
Inspection program (amicus brief), ordinance passed in 1997, State
Supreme Court decision pending, and currently Des Moines Crime Free
Rental Housing Ordinance. It takes considerable skill, dedication of our
members and financial resources to challenge ordinances which threaten
the rental housing industry.
If you believe that protecting the rental housing
industry is essential to RHA. Please consider sending in a monetary
contribution to the Legal Defense Fund. With your help we can continue
to make a difference.
